Surfing: Breaks: There are two surf spots in Sayulita; a right (longboard) break in front of Papa's Palapas and a left (faster) break in front of the campground. Rentals: Papa's Palapa's on the beach in front of the surf, Sininen Surf shop and Santa Crucita. For Lessons: Ask at Papa's Palapa's on the beach or look for The Sayulita Surf team.
Fishing: Nacho's Fishing Tours, Nacho knows where all the spots are and charges a competitive rate of $30 USD/hour for up to four people. Nacho can be found at the El Costeno resturant.
Hiking: Just follow the roads into the jungles and along the beaches. There is plenty to see and explore!
Shopping: A trip to Puerto Vallarta
is your choice but most of the fare can be purchased here in Sayulita at the
same prices.
Snorkeling/Marieta Islands: Nacho, El Tigre's
or just about any of the local fishermen will take you to the beautiful islands
where you can enjoy a great morning on deserted beaches.
Pack a lunch, water, and sunscreen.
they each charge a competitive rate of $350 pesos/hour
for up to eight people.
Playa Los Muertos is the best snorkeling area within walking
distance of the town due to fewer waves and clearer water.
You can also Fidel's boat to take you to Marieta Islands,
a fish reserve.
Horseback Riding & Zipline Tours: Across the street from the baseball field you will find Luis VerdinÕs Caballos (right next to a vetenerian clinic). He charges around $100 pesos per hour per person.
Beaches: The main beach of Sayulita is rarely crowded, the
exceptions being at Christmas and Easter. The constant activity of fishing
boats and bird life make it a pleasant place to be.
There are other nearby beaches more absent of civilization
and worth discovering as well. The nearest is
La Playa de Los Muertos which can be accessed by heading south along the
main to the road and then until the road ends. Take
the trail to the left that goes over the hill and through the cemetery. If you want to walk about 45 minutes, there are wonderful
beaches to the south called Pasquero and Pasquarito.
The directions are easier given by someone in the village
once you are there. Take water and food as they
are at least a half hour walk away and there is nothing available out there. ----In the opposite direction, beyond the Sayulita
beach heading north is a beach bordered by palms that is usually unpopulated. To get there, walk along the beach to the end of
the beach, cutting up to the right before you reach the last house. Follow the road through the jungle, staying generally
to the left. The land has recently been divided and there are confusing
fences. Once you reach the beach you might be
in a small cove with caves that will take you to the larger beach you can
walk to get to San Pancho. If you
continue north you will have to cut around the ex-President of Mexico's
house by going up the hill (follow the trail) and you will eventually reach
San Francisco (AKA San Pancho), the
small town on the next beach
Biking: Mountain bike tours and rentals can be rented through Lorenzo's next to the El Cafecito on the north side of the Village. Just a note, Lorenzo, is the coach of the Sayulita Mountain bike team who are state champions and are becoming a force to be reconizied in the national level. Stop by Sayulita Properties office and get direction to the shop, or go by the El Cafecito and find Lorenzo yourself he's one of the bartenders.
Utilities: Power and water are not quite as reliable as in the USA or Canada. Should you discover that either of the two utilities are missing from your house, please notify our staff and then hurry up and wait. They are almost always back on by the end of the day.
Toilet: Please do not throw any paper products (EVEN TOILET PAPER) into any toilets. The septic tanks and sewer system in the town need as much help as we can give them.
Hospital/First Aid: Sayulita has a health
clinic when you first enter the village on the main road to your left. It is a gray and blue colored building, which says
SALUD on the front. The hours are flexible so
it is best get there in the mornings. San Francisco
(San Pancho) four miles north has a basic yet functional hospital. AmeriMed and San Javier Hospital in PV are highly
recommended for serious incidents.
Post Office: There is no post office
in Sayulita. The closest is in La Pe–ita and
there is also one in Bucerias, the PV airport and two in Puerto Vallarta.
Groceries: If you want to cook at home, basic staples are available in the village. There are a number of small grocery stores in town, some offering better produce than others. It is worth a stroll through town to see what is fresh that day. The grocery store with the most choices is across from the plaza, near the ice cream store but there are a number of places you can get good food.----The easiest place to buy fish is from the fishermanÕs boats on the beach when they come in (usually between noon and 2 pm) and there are a number of stores selling fresh fish.
Beer Deposits: The best way to buy beer is by the case. You will pay $120 pesos/case and a $50 pesos deposit. Make sure to exchange your empty bottles each time in order to avoid the deposit.
Night Life: Most of the action is at El Cafecito, Don Pedro's, Calypso or just hanging around the plaza. Also, there is always Puerto Vallarta for more sophisticated entertainment, but that's not why you're in SAYULITA!!
